The origin of the chili pepper, Capsicum annuum, is in Central and South America, where it has been grown and used in indigenous cuisines for thousands of years. Archaeological excavations show that chili peppers were cultivated more than 6,000 years ago in areas such as Mexico, Guatemala and Peru. After the Spanish conquest of the Americas in the 15th and 16th centuries, Spanish explorers and settlers spread chili peppers around the world. As a result, they became an important part of cuisines in Europe, Asia and Africa. Hence, we know this pepper in the Netherlands mainly under the name Spanish pepper.

Today, these chili peppers are grown worldwide, with major producers in countries such as China, India, Mexico and Indonesia.

A popular ingredient in numerous dishes, they are appreciated for their unique flavour, mild spiciness, versatility and nutritional value. Whether you are going to make a pasta, sambal, stew, curry or soup, this pepper can be used in everything.

Store the fresh Spanish chilies in the refrigerator or a cool dark place in a pantry, basement closet, shed, etc. Ideal temperature is between 10°C and 13°C, then the peppers will stay good the longest, about 7 to 14 days. It is also possible to freeze the peppers. Click here for more information on freezing peppers or other ways to keep them for a long time.

In the summer season (April-November) this product is grown in the Netherlands in our own greenhouses. In the winter season (November-April) this product is grown in the countries of Spain, Israel & Morocco by our own growers.

The Spanish Chili is available year-round, but it remains a natural product. Therefore, circumstances may cause the product to be unavailable or limited at certain times.
