Back in 1930, Hendrik Boekestijn started the company that's now known as Westlandpeppers. He began by growing grapes, peaches, leeks, and cauliflower.
Later, his son Pieter Boekestijn took over. Now, his three sons, Henk, Dolf, and Pieter, have grown the company into one with a wide range of peppers, snack peppers, and other products. And guess what? The fourth generation is also working in the family business!
From April to November, our products come straight from our own greenhouses in the Netherlands. Then, from November to April, we get our products from Spain, Morocco, and Israel, where we've been working with the same growers for years. This way, we can offer you peppers and snack peppers all year round!

At Westlandpeppers, we're super passionate about growing beautiful, natural, and healthy produce. We do this by farming and operating in an innovative, sustainable, and market-focused way.
We're always working on new and improved products. Every year, we grow new varieties and types, so we can offer a wide range of the best quality.
We're also super committed to fighting food waste. For example, we supply food banks and turn 'less pretty' products into delicious sauces. Plus, we dry products in a special drying cell at our 's-Gravenzande location. By giving away and using these class 2 peppers, we try to throw away as few peppers as possible. This is how we aim to combat food waste!
Here at Westlandpeppers, we've got various certifications that show we work super safely, hygienically, and sustainably in our greenhouses and packing facility. Plus, we're all about creating a great working environment for our team.
We hold the following certifications: Global GAP, GRASP, Global GAP COC, PlanetProof, IFS Food, IFS Broker & AH Beter voor.
Westlandpeppers aims to operate as sustainably as possible when it comes to growing, biological pest control, packaging, energy, water, and waste. This way, we can provide people with fresh peppers and bell peppers now and in the future, all while minimizing our impact on people and the environment.
When packing webshop orders, we try to use as much cardboard as possible and keep plastic to a minimum. However, using plastic for packaging peppers isn't always pointless or unnecessary. It actually helps keep the products fresh for longer!
We're working towards using as little fossil energy as possible in the long run. For instance, we've invested a lot in solar panels over the past few years. We've got a total of 2239 solar panels installed at our De Lier & 's-Gravenzande locations. In 2023, these generated 435,000 KWh of sustainable energy, which is like the annual usage of 174 households and roughly half of what we use each year.
We're also working towards sustainably heating our greenhouses with geothermal energy in the future. We're part of Aardwarmte Maasdijk, a collaboration of over 80 greenhouse horticulture businesses aiming to get sustainable heat for their greenhouses. This project has been running for a few years, and they started building the heat network in early 2022.
We use biological crop protection and apply it preventatively right from the start of cultivation. This way, we fight diseases and pests purely biologically. Only when a disease or pest gets out of hand and can no longer be controlled with biological crop protection do we use chemical methods in specific spots.
Thanks to our super experienced greenhouse staff, we can often spot diseases and pests early on and tackle them with organic crop protection. Of course, we'd rather not use any biochemical crop protection, and we only do so when it's absolutely necessary and always in limited amounts. This way, we easily meet the strict requirements of supermarkets and PlanetProof.
