Here's how to make it

1
Give the peppers a good rinse and dry them off. Pop them into a mixing bowl, add the olive oil or sesame oil, and give them a good toss.

2
Get your frying pan nice and hot! Place a large (cast iron) pan over medium-high heat. Let it warm up for about 2 minutes, or until you see it just starting to smoke.

3
Carefully lay the Shishito peppers in a single layer in the pan and let them sear for 2 to 3 minutes, or until they're nicely charred and browned. Grab some tongs to flip them over and cook the other side until they're also blistered, which should take about another 2 minutes.

4
Pop the grilled peppers onto a plate or platter and season them with salt and soy sauce to taste.

Tip

1
You can also make these in the oven! Just preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Drizzle the Shishito peppers with olive oil or sesame oil and bake them for about 10-15 minutes. They're ready when they're soft and have a lovely brownish color. Finish them off with some sea salt and a drizzle of soy sauce to your liking.

Ingredients

  • olive oil or sesame oil
  • soy sauce
