Description

Discover the surprising heat of the Rawit, also known as Thai pepper, piri piri, or bird’s eye chili. This small but mighty chili pepper adds a real flavor explosion to your dishes. It's widely used in various Asian cuisines. From spicy curries in Thailand to fragrant sambals in Indonesia, the Rawit is also an essential ingredient in Vietnam and Malaysia. It doesn't just bring heat and spiciness to dishes, but also a unique flavor and depth. It's often used to make sambals, curries, stir-fries, salads, soups, and noodle dishes.

This chili pepper isn't just popular in Asia; it's also a hit in Suriname and various African countries. There, it's added to sauces, soups, stews, and marinades. It's also a key ingredient in the famous piri piri sauce, which is especially popular in countries like Mozambique, Angola, and South Africa. This sauce is known for its intense heat and rich flavor and is often used as a marinade for meat, poultry, or fish before grilling or roasting.

Here at Westlandpeppers, we've developed a special Rawit variety that's a bit coarser and larger than the traditional Bird's Eye chili peppers you'd find in an Asian grocery store. But don't worry, the flavor and heat of these little peppers are just the same!

Store fresh Rawit chili peppers in the fridge or a cool, dark spot like a utility room, pantry, shed, etc. The ideal temperature is between 10°C and 13°C; this will keep the peppers fresh for the longest, about 7 to 14 days. You can also freeze the peppers. Click here for more info on freezing chili peppers or other ways to keep them fresh for a long time.

During the summer season (April-November), we grow these peppers right here in the Netherlands in our own greenhouses. Then, for the winter season (November-April), our awesome growers in Spain take over!

Rawit is available year-round, but remember it's a natural product. So, sometimes, due to various circumstances, it might not be available or only in limited quantities.
