Description

The Habanero, in the Netherlands also known as the Adjuma, is a spicy chilli. The Habanero has a tropical, fruity but also very hot taste which makes it a pepper that can be used in many dishes. ‘Habanero’ is Spanish for ‘from Havana’ and originates from Central America and the Caribbean. There they cook this pepper whole with it to take it out again later. The experienced user dares to add the pepper in the dish.

The Adjuma is sometimes confused with the Madame Jeanette, which we at Westlandpeppers also call Lemon Habanero. The two varieties are very similar, but the difference is that the yellow Adjuma pepper is spicier than the Madame Jeanette. And that the Madame Jeanette has a more fruity taste and strong citrus-like smell, hence the name Lemon Habanero.

Storage & shelf life
It is best to store the fresh chillies in the refrigerator or in a cool dark place in a pantry, cellar cabinet, barn etc. The ideal temperature is between 10 °C and 13 °C, then the chillies stay the longest good, about 7 to 14 days. It is also possible to freeze the chillies, then you always have a supply of peppers. Click here for more information about freezing chillies.
