Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering

No, unfortunately, it is not possible to just drop by to buy products. We do not have a physical store, but a packing hall and greenhouses where orders are processed.

It is possible to order the products via the webshop and then choose the shipping method “Pick up in De Lier”. Then we will prepare your order and you can pick it up. Please note that you will receive a separate confirmation email, without this email your order will not be ready yet.

Your order will be waiting for you in a refrigerated area, but remember that fresh products will be of a lower quality after three days, so don’t wait too long to pick up your order.

Westlandpeppers also has a vending machine/Vespa Foodtruck that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Foodtruck is located at the Burgemeeester Crezeelaan 44a and can be recognized by its orange colour. The products sold in the Foodtruck are small consumer packaging: Snack peppers, Habanero’s, Jalapeños, chili mix and various sauces.

Unfortunately, we do not give (guided) tours at our company and it is not possible to visit the greenhouses. This because of various hygienic reasons and virus/disease pressure on the plants.

Yes, this is possible. However, we always ask you to order the products via the webshop and choose the shipping method “Pick up in De Lier”. You will then be contacted via e-mail stating when you can pick up your order. Without this confirmation email, your order will not be ready yet.

Yes, everyone can order in the Westlandpeppers webshop. Both private and business customers can order in our webshop. For business customers, there is the option to fill in your VAT number when ordering. This will then also be shown on the invoice.

You can always send us a mail with a request to change your order. This is possible when the package has not yet been made and picked up by DHL. Send us a mail with your order number and what you would like to change. Then we can see if this is possible.

In some cases, you can still cancel your order before it is shipped. Please contact us about this. Once your package has been shipped, it is no longer possible to cancel your order. Due to hygiene/food safety reasons, it is not possible to return the package.

If you are not able to order via the webshop, please send us an e-mail with the products you would like to order and the invoice and shipping details. We will then put your order in our system, and you’ll receive an invoice from us by email. As soon as it has been paid, we start with making and shipping your order or make it ready for collection.

The order confirmation email is sent automatically. So it is possible that the mail has ended up in the spam folder/junk inbox. Is the mail not in there as well? Then it is maybe possible that you have made a typing error when entering your e-mail address or that we are experiencing technical problems. If this is the case, please send us an e-mail so that we can check whether we have received your order correctly.

Yes, we ship to the following European countries:
The Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

Is the country you want to ship to not on the list? Please contact us about the possibilities.

No, there is no maximum order quantity, but if your order weighs more than 17kg, the order will be split into several parts. This is because of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for the carrier of DHL. It is, therefore, possible that one package arrives a little later than the other. For orders over 17kg you also pay more shipping costs, because this is then packed and shipped in multiple parts.

0kg> up to 17kg: 1x postage
17kg> up to 34kg: 2x postage
34kg> up to 51kg: 3x postage

Please contact us if you want to order more than 50 kilos. For orders over 50 kilos, we work with different pricing.

Products

The fresh products are grown in our own greenhouses in the Netherlands during the summer season (April to November). During the winter season (November-April) the products come from the countries Spain, Israel and Morocco, where we have been working with the same growers for years. This allows us to offer peppers, bell peppers & tomatillo’s all year round.

Some of the dried products we have grown and dried ourselves in the Netherlands. Another part comes from Mexico, Spain, or India. This is indicated per product in the product description.

The sauces are handmade at a local company with our own fresh products.

Many of our products are available all year round, but during the winter season (November-April) some fresh products are not available. This is because not all our products are grown abroad by our growers. This is indicated per product in the product description.

If a product is no longer available, this will be indicated in the webshop as ‘not available/out of stock’. It is possible that a product is temporarily out of stock or that these products will be available again when the new Dutch growing season starts again in March/April. You can sign up for a waiting list, you will receive an email as soon as this product is available again.

Fresh chilli peppers
It is best to store the fresh chillies in the refrigerator or in a cool dark place in a pantry, cellar cabinet, barn etc. The ideal temperature is between 10 °C and 13 °C, then the chillies stay the longest good, about 7 to 14 days*. It is also possible to freeze the chillies, then you always have a supply of peppers. Click here for more information about freezing peppers or other ways to preserve them for a long time.

Fresh herbs
It is best to store the fresh herbs in the fridge. Wash the leaves with cold water and wrap them in a few sheets of paper towel or a sandwich bag. Keep this in the vegetable drawer of your fridge. This way the herbs stay good the longest, about 1 week. It is also possible to freeze or dry the leaves. Click here for more information.

Dried products
To keep dried chillies good for a long time, it’s best to store them in an airtight container in the pantry or even better, in the freezer. Avoid exposure to air, moisture, light and heat, which can cause the dried chillies to discolour, mould and lose their flavour.
The dried chillies have a long shelf life, but for optimum flavour and spiciness we advise to not store them for longer than a year*. Click here for more information on storing and freezing dried chillies.

Sauces
Store the sauce in a cool, dark and dry place. For example, in the cellar or a cool pantry. After opening store in the refrigerator. See the beste before date on the label of the bottle. After opening, the shelf life is limited. We recommend ±4 weeks*, but can be longer if it still looks, smells and tastes good.

* The most important advice for all products is; see if the product still looks good, smell the product and taste if it is still good. Then it is also possible that the product is still good for longer than mentioned above.

We cannot guarantee the spiciness of the chilli peppers. Each product has a detailed description of its flavour and spiciness but does not mention any specific Scoville value. Chilli peppers are natural products and depend on the natural conditions, this means that a pepper needs a lot of light and warmth to reach its spiciness. In the months January, February and March when the peppers come from Spain, Morocco, and Israel it is possible that the peppers are less spicy due to little sunlight. This can also happen in the summer months when we have less sun than normal here in the Netherlands. Because of this, Westlandpeppers cannot give any guarantees about the hotness of the peppers.

We regularly test the chilli peppers for their spiciness, but of course, we cannot test everything. Because of this, it is possible that you may have received products that are less or not spicy. We ask for your understanding. For more information please contact us.

Chilies and bell peppers are natural products and we have no influence on the size of the product. At the beginning of the growing season, of both the summer and winter season, some peppers are often a bit coarser, this is due to little light in which the fruit is produced. In the summer there is a much larger amount of light, because of this the plant regulates its own growth and balance through the setting and the amount of fruit. This means that the chili can be a lot finer, all because the plant produces it more easily. So this is a natural process that we as a grower have no influence on. We ask for your understanding.

The only thing we as a grower can influence is choosing the right varieties. Of the Rawit and Pimientos de Padron, we have a coarser variety than some people are used to. This is because the quality and productivity of these varieties are better. Please take this into account when ordering.

If, for example, you have ordered 500gr of 4 products, they may be packed in one box. We do this because if this is wrapped separately in plastic, it can start to brew in the box. This is of course not good for the products. We also want to limit the amount of packaging material. The products are placed separated in the box, but it is possible that it gets mixed up a bit during transport. We ask for your understanding. Our experience with sending fresh products shows that this is a good method. You can always use the clear photos in the webshop to separate the products.

If you order in the Netherlands and some parts in Belgium before 09:30 am, the order will be delivered to your home the next working day by DHL. If you order after 09:30 am, it may take 1 to 2 working days for your order to be delivered by DHL. For all other customers ordering outside the Netherlands a delivery time of 3 to 5 working days applies.

As soon as your order has been processed and picked up by DHL, you will receive a Track & Trace code. With this code, you can see exactly where the parcel is located. It is possible that through the settings of your e-mail address, the mail from DHL with the Track & Trace code has ended up in the spam box. It is also possible that it will take several hours before DHL’s planning becomes visible.

Please note that orders placed after 12:00 pm on Friday will not be processed before the weekend. This happens on Monday! This is to prevent the fresh products from staying in (warm) depots throughout the weekend.

Your order will be shipped by the transport company DHL where Westlandpeppers has a partnership with. The package will be shipped in an extra-strong export box which will be carefully packed. For the filling and packaging material that is needed, Westlandpeppers uses (old) cardboard boxes. This is better for the environment and you can simply place this cardboard with the waste paper for recycling.

It is important to fill in your email address when ordering, through this email address you will receive multiple emails related to your order. After your order has been processed and picked up by DHL, you will receive a Track & Trace code. With this code, you can see exactly where the package is located. It is possible that, due to the settings of your email address, the mail from DHL with the Track & Trace code has ended up in the spambox. It may also take several hours for DHL’s planning to become visible.

International customers can follow the package via www.dhlparcel.nl/nl/track-trace. On this page, you can select the desired language at the top right. Fill in the country of destination, the Track & Trace code you received via e-mail and your postal code. Click on “Find package” and you will see the status of your package.

No, it is not possible to choose to ship the order by post. Your shipment will always be sent as a “package”, even if you only order a smaller package. Our experience is that products in a letter post packaging quickly ‘mold’ and are delivered less fresh. Because of this, we have chosen to ship all orders in an export box.

If you would want the order to be delivered to a shared business location, please indicate in the order comments how the DHL carrier will get your parcel to the right place. This can be done by means of a telephone number or a clear explanation of where you are located in the building. This is to prevent parcels from being sent back unnecessarily because they are not accepted by another company.
