Discover the surprising heat of the Rawit, also known as Thai pepper, piri piri or bird's eye chili. This small but powerful chili pepper adds a true explosion of flavor to your dishes. The pepper is widely used in various Asian cuisines. From spicy curries from Thailand to fragrant sambals from Indonesia, Rawit is also an essential ingredient in Vietnam and Malaysia. It not only adds heat and spiciness to dishes, but also a unique flavor and depth. It is widely used in making sambals, curries, wok dishes, salads, soups and noodle dishes
And not only is this chili pepper popular in Asia, but also in Suriname and several African countries. There it is added to sauces, soups, stews and marinades. It is also an important ingredient in the famous piri piri sauce. Which is particularly popular in countries such as Mozambique, Angola and South Africa. Known for its intense heat and rich flavor, this sauce is often used as a marinade for meat, poultry or fish before grilling or roasting.
At Westlandpeppers, we have developed a special variety of Rawit that is slightly coarser and larger than the traditional Bird's eye chili peppers you can find at the store. The flavor and spiciness of the peppers are the same, though.
