Dried Hoja Santa is an herb widely used in Latin American cuisine. It is also called pepper leaf, Acuyo, Anisillo, Mexican Pepperleaf, Sacred pepper or Root beer Plant. It is complex in flavor: Eucalyptus, Anise, mint, nutmeg and tarragon are all found in the dried Hoja Santa. The fresh leaves are dried in a drying cell and then shredded into coarse pieces. The dried pieces are perfect for grinding into powder, but of course it can also be used as a spice, providing a flavor twist in your dish. For example, it is an important seasoning for the famous sauce Mole verde and many other Mexican dishes.
Hoja Santa can be toxic/harmful if ingested in excess. It is recommended to avoid this product in large quantities.

To keep dried herbs good for a long time, store them in an airtight container in the pantry. Avoid exposure to air, moisture, light and heat; this can cause the herbs to discolor, mold and reduce flavor.
Dried herbs have a long shelf life, but for optimal flavor, do not store them for more than a year.
Grown in Spain, dried in the Netherlands.
