Pepper X isn't just some random pepper variety that popped up out of nowhere. It's the result of careful cross-breeding and selection processes by Ed Currie, the guy also responsible for the infamous Carolina Reaper. To create his new masterpiece, Ed Currie crossed a Carolina Reaper with a pepper he reportedly got from a fellow grower.
What makes Pepper X so special is its extreme heat. With an average measured Scoville scale value of 2,693,000 units, it easily surpasses its predecessor. The previous record holder, the Carolina Reaper, had an average of 1.64 million SHU, which is already incredibly spicy. For comparison, the jalapeño only scores 2,500 to 8,000 on the Scoville scale. In other words, Pepper X is only for the true daredevils!
This pepper has a unique look, featuring the unmistakable scorpion tail that many extremely hot peppers have, and a greenish-yellow color. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get our hands on seeds for this incredibly spicy pepper yet, so it's not in our assortment.
