The Chipotle Morita chili pepper is a dried and smoked red Jalapeño, just like the chipotle pepper. The main difference is that Morita peppers are smoked for a shorter time, which gives them a milder taste and helps them keep their fruity flavor. They're super flavorful and a staple in Mexican cooking. Jalapeños start green on the plant, but they ripen to a beautiful red if left on long enough. We harvest Morita peppers when they're ripe and a deep red. Then, these red Jalapeños are dried and lightly smoked. This gives them their famous mild, fruity, and slightly smoky flavor.
Preparation
– First, toast the dried peppers in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 2 minutes. This helps release their essential oils and brings out more flavor. Next, rehydrate the dried peppers with hot water. Let them soak in hot water for 15-20 minutes, then slice or chop them to your desired size.
– You can also grind the dried peppers into flakes or powder.

To keep dried chili peppers fresh for a long time, store them in an airtight container in your pantry or, even better, in the freezer. Avoid exposing them to air, moisture, light, and heat, as this can cause them to discolor, mold, and lose flavor.
Dried peppers last a long time, but for the best flavor and heat, try to use them within a year. Click here for more info on storing and freezing dried chili peppers.
