La Lotería is a traditional Mexican family game that’s very similar to bingo. However, instead of numbers, it uses pictures.
Do you want to keep your Mexican or South American party night going in style with a fun game that also helps you improve your Spanish vocabulary? Then bring this game along! I’ve described how it works below. You can also find clear instructions via the link, so you can get started with La Lotería right away.
Fun guaranteed for young and old!
How the game works:
Cards: There are 54 cards in the game, each with a unique image,
Board cards: Players choose a game board (tablet) with a grid of images. Each game includes 10 board cards.
Tokens: Not included in the set, but you can use coffee beans, nuts, Tepin chili peppers, or small coins, for example.
Gameplay: A caller draws cards and names the images. Players mark the images on their board with tokens, beans, or coins.
Winning: The first player to complete a pre-agreed pattern (such as a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line, or a full card) and shout “¡Lotería!” wins
Too easy? : As you can see, this is quite simple, but you can make it harder by not showing the cards but instead sharing a description in Spanish that is written on the back of the card.
