pepper X is not just another random pepper variety that appeared out of nowhere. It is the result of careful crossbreeding and selection processes by Ed Currie, the man also responsible for the infamous Carolina Reaper. To arrive at his new creation, Ed Currie crossed the one Carolina Reaper with a pepper allegedly given to him by a grower friend.
What makes pepper X so special is its extreme spiciness. With an average measured Scoville scale value of 2,693,000 units, it easily surpasses its predecessor. In fact, the previous record holder, the Carolina Reaper, averaged 1.64 million SHU. Which is also incredibly spicy;by comparison, the jalapeño scores only 2,500 to 8,000 on the Scoville scale. In other words, pepper X is only for the real daredevils!
The pepper has an unusual appearance, with the indispensable scorpion tail that many extremely hot peppers have and a greenish yellow color. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to obtain seeds of this extremely spicy pepper, so we do not yet have it in our assortment.
