Achiote paste from El Yucateco is a flavorful spice mix popular in Mexican and Caribbean cuisines. It has a clay-like substance and is mild in spiciness, but is packed with flavor due to the addition of many different spices. Achiote paste is made from annatto seeds, herbs, spices and vinegar. The spice mix is easy to prepare and is perfect for seasoning beef, chicken, pork or fish.
Enjoy the flavor of Yucatan (southeast Mexico) with this special marinating paste. Traditionally used as a seasoning in dishes from Yucatan and Central America, mainly for dishes influenced by Mayan culture. The annatto in the paste gives the meat a beautiful red color and also adds a kick of flavor.
Preparation: dilute 30g paste with ½ cup vinegar, orange juice or pineapple juice. A recipe is included with the package.
Ingredients: Water, corn flour, annatto seed (22%), salt, garlic, spices, acidity regulator (acetic acid) (E-260) and preservative (sodium benzoate) (E-211). This product contains modified organisms.
