Making your own sambal is easy, healthy and super tasty! With this recipe, you can make a red or yellow spicy sambal.

sambal Westlandpeppers

1Order the red or yellow Sambal package with all Westlandpeppers products.

2Remove the stalks from the chillies and grind them together with the onion and garlic in a blender or food processor.

3Add the sugar, vinegar, ketjap manis and lime juice and grind again.

4Heat a wok or frying pan with a large dash of oil. When the pan is hot add the sambal, leave on high heat for 5 minutes and keep stirring.

5Put the sambal in a clean jar, turn the lid on it. Place the jar upside down so that it is vacuum-pulled and perfectly sealed. Let the sambal cool down and store it in the fridge.

1Do you want to give the sambal extra spice? Leave the seeds in the chillies. Sambal less hot? Then take out the seeds and add tomato.

Shelf life

1Limited shelf life once the sambal is opened. If you always use a clean spoon you extend the shelf life. You can also pour a small layer of oil on top of the sambal after use.
