Description

The Queen of Malinalco is a unique Tomatillo with a yellow/green colour. The Queen of Malinalco is much sweeter and elongated in shape than the green ‘normal’ tomatillo. Like the Tomatillo, the berry has a paper-like ‘lantern’ covering with a yellow/green oblong tomato inside. The special Tomatillo is named after the town of Malinalco in Mexico where the variety originated. The spiciness of a chillies goes well with the sweet taste of the yellow tomatillo. That is why the tomatillo is often used to make (spicy) sauces, but is also very good for roasting, baking or grilling the fruit.

It is best to store fresh tomatillos in the fridge or in a cool, dark place in a utility room, cellar cupboard, barn, etc. The ideal temperature is between 10°C and 13°C. Then they will last the longest, around 7 to 14 days. If you cannot use everything immediately fresh, freeze the tomatillo’s, remove the casing/lampion and cut into cubes (after this the tomatillo is only suitable for warm preparations).
