The Tomatillo, also called green tomato, is a fruit with a sour taste, comparable to a green apple. Due to the sweet-sour taste, it can be used in many different dishes. The Tomatillo is a must in the Mexican cuisine, just like the Jalapeño and the Poblano. The Tomatillo is used for making sauces, but it is also good to roast, bake or grill.
It is best to store fresh tomatillos in the fridge or in a cool, dark place in a utility room, cellar cupboard, shed, etc. The ideal temperature is between 10°C and 13°C. Then they will last the longest, around 7 to 14 days. If you cannot use everything immediately fresh, freeze the tomatillo’s, remove the casing/lampion and cut into cubes (after this the tomatillo is only sutibale for warm preparations).
Country of origin
In the summer season (April-November) this product is grown in the Netherlands in our own greenhouses. In the winter season (November-April) this product is grown in Spain, Israel and Morocco by our own growers.
