Shishito peppers
€2,85 – €9,00
Description
The Shishito is a green mild spicy pepper. The Shishito is originally a Japanese pepper and has a firm, savoury taste. The name Shishito in Japanese refers to the “head of the Lion”, which the underside of the pepper resembles. When used in the kitchen, it is similar to the Pimientos de Padron, but in combination with typical Japanese dishes. It is also the ideal choice for a tempura.
The pepper is delicious to fry or grill with some sea salt and olive oil. Bake or grill the Shishito chillies in a pan or oven with oil until the chillies blacken and shrivel, about 5 minutes in a pan and 15-20 minutes in the oven (175 degrees). Finish with (sea) salt. It is also possible to prepare this on the BBQ. The small pack of 150gr Shishito is in a grill dish with oil and salt.
Storage & shelf life
It is best to store the fresh chillies in the refrigerator or in a cool dark place in a pantry, cellar cabinet, barn etc. The ideal temperature is between 10 °C and 13 °C, then the chillies stay the longest good, about 7 to 14 days. It is also possible to freeze the chillies, then you always have a supply of peppers. Click here for more information about freezing chillies.
