Description
Salsa Verde Mexicana is a delicious spicy tomatillo (dip) sauce. It tastes very good with, for example, tortilla chips, tacos or steak. It is a popular side dish in Mexican cuisine. It is sometimes made with ‘regular’ red tomatoes, but the original Mexican recipe is with fresh tomatillo. The taste of the tomatillo is similar to a green apple and tastes a little fresh and sour. In Mexico, this fruit is very popular and is often used in salsas, including Salsa verde. This is a package with all the Westlandpeppers products to make Salsa Mexicana.
Salsa Verde Mexicana package: 6 tomatillos, 2 jalapeño, garlic & 1 red onion.
Add yourself: pepper, salt en lemon/lime juice
Recipe:
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Roast the tomatillo, jalapeño, garlic and onion on a baking sheet in the oven. Do this for about 10 minutes, until they start to colour. Puree the roasted vegetables in a blender or with a food processor. Season with pepper, salt and lime/lemon juice. Leave the sauce in the fridge for a few hours so that the flavours can mix well.
Storage & shelf life
The fresh tomatillo’s and jalapeños are best kept in the refrigerator or in a cool dark place in a pantry, cellar, barn etc. The ideal temperature is between 10 ° C and 13 ° C, then the products stay the longest good, about 7 to 14 days.
Country of origin
In the summer season (April-November) this product is grown in the Netherlands in our own greenhouses. In the winter season (November-April) this product is grown in Spain and Morocco by our own growers.
