Description

Hoja Santa, also known as Piper Auritum, Mexican Pepper Leaf, Acuyo or Anisillo, is an aromatic herb with a heart-shaped velvety leaf. It has a complex taste and can have a diameter of 30 cm. The flavours Eucalyptus, Anise, mint, nutmeg and tarragon are all found in the fresh Hoya Santa. Hoja Santa is a leaf that is widely used in Latin American cuisine. The leaf can be used as a wrapper to wrap food and then steam or bake it. But of course, it can also be used as a herb for a flavour twist in your dish.

Hoja Santa can be poisonous/unhealthy when ingested excessively. It is recommended to avoid large amounts of Hoja Santa.

Quantity: 2 leaves

The Hoja Santa leaves are packed in a plastic bag with a small amount of water. This ensures that the leaves remain strong and retain their distinctive flavour during transport. It is possible that the leaf contains (small) holes.

It is best to store the fresh herbs in the fridge. Wash the leaves with cold water and wrap them in a few sheets of kitchen paper or in the plastic bag. Store this in the vegetable drawer of your fridge. This way the herbs stay good the longest, about 1 week. It is also possible to freeze or dry the leaves. Click here for more information.

In the summer season (March-November) this product is grown in the Netherlands in our own greenhouses. In the winter season (November-May), this product is cultivated on a small scale by our regular grower in Spain and therefore has limited availability.
