Description

Discover the spicy Habanero, also known as Adjuma in the Netherlands, a chilli pepper that will take your dishes to new levels of flavour! This hot pepper has a tropical and fruity character, combined with an intense spiciness, making it a pepper that can be used in many different dishes.

‘Habanero’, meaning ‘from Havana’ in Spanish, has its origins in Central America and the Caribbean. There, they poke lots of holes in the pepper and they cooked it in its whole with the dish. This ensures that the delicious aromas are well absorbed and because you can remove the pepper afterwards, you are not left with hot seeds in the dish. The experienced user dares to process and add the full pepper to the dish as well. Because of its tropical, fruity and spicy flavour, it is a favourite ingredient for making hot sauces. They are also often added to salsas, curries, marinades, stews, rice dishes and chili con carne.

Note: Yellow Adjuma is sometimes confused with Madame Jeanette, which we at Westlandpeppers also call Lemon Habanero. Although these two chillies are very similar, there are also differences. For instance, the yellow Adjuma is spicier than the Madame Jeanette. And the Madame Jeanette, on the other hand, has a fruitier flavour and strong citrus-like fragrance, hence the name Lemon Habanero.

It is best to store the fresh chillies in the refrigerator or in a cool dark place in a pantry, cellar cabinet, barn etc. The ideal temperature is between 10 °C and 13 °C, then the chillies stay the longest good, about 7 to 14 days. It is also possible to freeze the chillies, then you always have a supply. Click here for more information about freezing chilli peppers or other ways to preserve them for a long time.

In the summer season (May-November) this product is grown in the Netherlands in our own greenhouses. In the winter season (November-March) this product is grown in Israel & Morocco by our own growers.

The Habanero is available all year round, but it is still a nature product. It is therefore possible that, due to circumstances, the product is not or limited available at certain times.
