Description

The Epazote Powder is a ‘single origin’ powder and consists of dried ground Epazote leaves. It contains no dyes or other additives. Only the Epazote leaves are ground into powder, not the branches of the plant. So it really consists of 100% Epazote leaves! Epazote is a herb widely used in Mexican cuisine. The plant spreads a strong, smokey lemon/mint scent, it gives a very typical much-appreciated taste to dishes. It is used in countless Mexican dishes with beans, but it can be used in all Mexican dishes. The taste is so strong that you often don’t have to use much of it to give a dish that typical Mexican “touch”.

Epazote has been used for centuries in traditional herbal medicine as an anthelmintic. By turning the leaves and flowers into a tea, intestinal cramps, liver and other stomach problems can be treated, but Epazote can be poisonous when ingested excessively. This treatment is not used in modern medicine, because safer effective means and medicines are available. It is recommended that pregnant or breastfeeding women avoid large amounts of epazote.
